Root canal care and tooth pain relief at Shady Grove Dental Care in Rockville, MD

Root canal care, start to finish

A root canal saves a tooth whose nerve is infected or inflamed, and it relieves the pain that comes with it. At Shady Grove Dental Care, Dr. Shalini Chittamuri, DDS, finds the cause of your pain, helps you get relief and makes sure your tooth is restored with a strong crown afterward.

Most root canals are performed by a trusted local endodontist (a root canal specialist) we work with closely. Our front desk coordinates the referral, sends your records and helps you schedule, so you're never left to figure it out alone.

Follow-up

We check the tooth at your regular visits to make sure it stays healthy for the long term.

Why save the tooth?

Keep your natural tooth

Nothing works quite like your own tooth. A root canal and crown let you keep it.

Protect your bite

Losing a tooth can let neighboring teeth shift. Saving it keeps your bite stable.

Often less costly

Saving a tooth is often less expensive over time than replacing it with an implant or bridge.

If a tooth can't be saved, we'll explain your options, including dental implants, bridges and partial dentures.

Frequently asked questions

Do you do root canals in your office?

Dr. Chittamuri diagnoses tooth pain and treats some straightforward cases here. Most root canals are performed by a trusted endodontist we work with closely, and our front desk coordinates the referral for you.

Does a root canal hurt?

The tooth is fully numbed, so the treatment itself feels much like getting a filling. Most people feel relief from the pain that brought them in.

Will I need a crown after a root canal?

Usually, yes, especially for back teeth. A crown protects the treated tooth from cracking. Dr. Chittamuri places the crown after your root canal is complete.

How soon can I be seen for tooth pain?

We offer same-day visits for tooth pain whenever possible. Call (301) 330-4600 as early in the day as you can.

Is pulling the tooth a better option?

Saving your natural tooth is usually the best choice for your bite and long-term health. If a tooth can't be saved, we'll explain replacement options.

Will insurance cover my root canal?

Most PPO plans cover part of the cost. The endodontist bills separately, and we'll help you understand your expected costs for the crown.
